Expansion of Los Cabos International Airport: GP Construcción, a leader in airport infrastructure in Mexico

At GP Construcción, we are reaffirming our leadership in infrastructure in Mexico with the expansion of Terminal 2 at Los Cabos International Airport, a strategic project developed for Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacífico (GAP), a Mexican company recognized for operating and managing airports in Mexico and abroad.

Located in San José del Cabo, Baja California Sur, this project—spanning more than 6,200 m² —presents an engineering and coordination challenge, as it is being carried out within the area known as Lado Aire, just a few meters from the service roads and commercial flight arrival points.

Challenges and Strategic Coordination

The biggest challenge was to carry out construction without disrupting flight operations, while ensuring the safety of passengers and flight operations at all times. To this end, a meticulous construction logistics plan was implemented with the participation of multiple teams: GAP’s internal and external contractors, the Operations department, Operational Safety, Property Security, and GP Construction.

Scope of the Project

The expansion of Terminal 2 included:

• Installation of SUE interior rammed earth walls to ensure airtightness.
• Dismantling of the glass facade and sky bridges.
• General demolition work for the connection to the existing building.
• Supply, fabrication, and installation of steel structures.
• Installation and pouring of the mezzanine, gutters, and metal roof.

The project was completed in December 2024, strengthening the airport's capacity to meet the growing demand from tourists and business travelers in the region.

• 9 boarding bridges in operation for arrivals and departures.
• An expanded waiting area (SUE), with space for new retail stores and improved passenger service.
