Expansion of Los Cabos International Airport: GP Construcción, leader in airport infrastructure in Mexico

GP Construcción reaffirmed its leadership in infrastructure in Mexico with the expansion of Terminal 2 of the Los Cabos International Airport, a strategic project developed for Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacífico (GAP), a Mexican company renowned for operating and managing airports in Mexico and abroad.

Located in San José del Cabo, Baja California Sur, this project of more than 6,200 m² represents an engineering and coordination challenge as it is located in the area known as Lado Aire, just a few meters from the service roads and commercial flight arrival positions.

Challenges and strategic coordination

The biggest challenge consisted of building without interrupting flight operations, guaranteeing the safety of passengers and air operations at all times. To achieve this, a meticulous construction logistics was implemented with the participation of multiple teams: internal and external GAP contractors, Operations, Operational Safety, Property Safety and GP Construction.

Scope of the project

The Terminal 2 expansion included:

• Installation of SUE interior walling to guarantee airtightness.
• Dismantling of glass facade and aeropuentes.
• General demolitions for interconnection with the existing building.
• Supply, fabrication and erection of metallic structure.
• Installation and pouring of steel mezzanine, gutters and metal roofing.

The project was completed in December 2024, strengthening the airport's capacity to meet the growing tourism and business demand in the region.

• 9 airports in operation for arrivals and departures.
• An expanded waiting room (SUE), with capacity for new commercial premises and improved passenger service.
