Grupo GP Returns to the CRGS and Receives Recognition from UDEM for Its 60th Anniversary

Executives, engineers, and architects who participated in the construction of the Roberto Garza Sada Center (CRGS) toured the facility once again alongside executives from Grupo GP and the University of Monterrey (UDEM). This time, the occasion was a recognition by the university of Grupo GP’s 60-year history.

During the visit, UDEM administrators demonstrated how the CRGS’s classrooms and spaces are used today. Those who worked on the project shared anecdotes about its construction and recalled some of the challenges the teams faced.

Designed by Japanese architect Tadao Ando and opened in 2013, the building was constructed by GP Construcción. Its design required precision in construction and high safety standards. The CRGS is also LEED-certified.

UDEM Honors Grupo GP

At the end of the tour, UDEM President Eugenio Garza Garza and Alejandra Fernández Garza presented Grupo GP with an award in recognition of its six decades of history. Celebrating this milestone at the CRGS gave the event special significance for both institutions.

In his remarks, Garza Garza spoke about Grupo GP’s ability to bring complex projects to life and referred to the building where they were gathered: “This building is literally a project that you built—and no one else could have done it.”

He also emphasized that construction projects foster relationships, create jobs, and generate opportunities that endure long after construction is complete. “Building a structure might take one, two, or three years, but building a company with 60 years of history—with all that it has achieved—is truly very difficult,” he said as he congratulated the family and employees of Grupo GP.

The event concluded with a get-together during which attendees continued to share memories of the project and engage in conversations about architecture and education.

Today, more than a decade after its opening, the Roberto Garza Sada Center continues to be a place for learning, creating, and coming together. Returning there allowed Grupo GP to celebrate its history alongside UDEM and some of the team members who made its construction possible.
